An example of the loss of control over information

To see the loss of control, imagine a large congenial family, where everyone shares the goal of a harmonious holiday dinner.

Harmony requires a selective flow of information.

There are things one can say to Aunt Jane that one cannot say to Uncle John and vice versa.
Family members share more or less the same understanding of what the relevant strictures on informatoin flows are.

Members must coordinate their efforts to observe the harmony-creating constraints.

Now imagine a business or government observer recording all the conversations and sharing them on the Internet.

Can family members still be sure that Uncle John will not learn what people said to Aunt Jane?
